About The Tarawhiti family
Please sign in to see more.
The story of the Tarawhiti whanau originates from the Waikato district and has evolved from the battles between Taranaki and Waikato. The whanau history has been very well researched and recorded, the research has taken nearly 30 years and has involved researching all the Maori Land Court Records, Whakapapa sheets from the different whakapapa resources, Manuscripts, whanau whakapapa books. The Tarawhiti whanau reside in the Waikato and the Taranaki area. though they are different regions they are all linked and connected. One common fact is that the Tarawhiti whanau are descendants from the Tupuna Whawhakia. All the descendants come from two main lines, the first is Heta Kereru Tarawhiti and the second is Henare Te Tarawhiti each of these men reside in Taupiri, Waikato and Otakeho,Taranaki. The Tarawhiti whanau are linked to the sacred group that was sent in 1867 to Taranaki from Waikato by King Tawhiao. This group was called the Te Kaumarua. This site and the whakapapa associated within this site is dedicated to the memory of Jack Nuku Tarawhiti for all his effort in holding the records of the whanau
